 I am Jay Witherbee, age 51, a long-time resident of Chelan and former Chelan councilmember and mayor.  I am married to Jennifer Witherbee. We have no children but have one very spoiled cat.  (for more click here)

 I am seeking your vote for Chelan County Commissioner, District 3.  My twenty-five years of small business ownership combined with eight years of municipal leadership have prepared me for this important job. Listed below are a few of the key issues I believe to be of critical importance to Chelan County families. 

·        Fiscal Responsibility

     During my tenure as a councilmember and later as mayor, the City of Chelan prepared and approved a balanced budget eight consecutive years without once raising property tax rates. You can expect the same fiscal conservatism from me as your Commissioner.    

·        Preservation and Enhancement of Quality of Life

Whether we’re discussing growth & development, property taxes, transportation or water issues, it all comes under the heading of quality of life.  Whether you are a fourth generation Chelan County resident, like my wife, or chose to move here as I did almost twenty years ago, we enjoy the quality of life and the amenities Chelan County has to offer.  I am committed to the preservation and enhancement of this quality of life for future generations.   

·        Management of Development & Growth

I have a clear pro-growth record and am very supportive of responsible development. However I have a firm belief that development should pay for development.  I don’t believe Chelan County taxpayers have any interest in subsidizing private development. 

·        Water Rights Protection

As mayor of Chelan, my administration introduced and council adopted an innovative water rights transfer ordinance protecting the existing water rights of the citizens. This action ensured that there would always be adequate water rights to support future development. 

·        Transportation    

       We are fortunate that our transportation challenges can be overcome, if we take action now.  We must consider all transportation options, both private and public, including alternative modes of transportation such as pedestrian and bicycle corridors. State funding will be insufficient to keep up with our transportation demands. The solutions will require commitment and sacrifice at a local level.
