Questions and Answers:
Absolutely that would be a conflict of interest. For that reason, I chose to surrender the real estate license I obtained last year and dedicate my time to running and preparing for service as a Chelan County Commissioner. Though I learned a great deal by studying for and passing Washington state’s real estate exam, I did not ever purchase, sell or list any real estate as a licensed real estate agent neither do I own nor am I involved in any development in unincorporated Chelan County. What do you say to people that think you’re crazy for continuing service in the public arena? I would be crazy not to be involved. I have the experience, the passion and the drive. There are causes that are important to me. The way I can make a difference is to stay involved. How do you plan on controlling growth and development? You don’t control growth – you manage growth. There is no one single solution to managing growth and development. You adopt and implement policies based upon Chelan County citizens’ values and you enforce them – firmly, fairly and consistently. What is your budgeting philosophy? My professional background is in small business operation and development. There’s a responsibility that comes with having to meet payroll and having people count on you. I entered government with the philosophy you balance a budget on the expense side. You can expect the same fiscally conservative policy from me at the county level. As a citizen of Chelan County, government efficiency is extremely important to me. My experiences with city government have provided me a perspective of how the county and cities work together to maximize taxpayer dollars. What is the most important issue facing Chelan County? Whether we’re talking about growth & development, property taxes, transportation or water issues, it all comes under the heading of quality of life and the lifestyle we’re accustomed to. Whether you’ve lived here for four generations, like my wife and her family, or chose to move here as I did, almost twenty years ago, we all enjoy this quality of life and the amenities Chelan County has to offer. Our first priority must be to preserve and enhance this quality of life for future generations – our kids and their kids.
